Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth and also to increase the stability of dentures, which can move when eating. An implant is made from a metal post that is inserted through the gum tissue into the jaw bone. Over a period of time the implant fuses to the bone to secure the implant in place, onto which a prosthetic tooth is attached.
Patients prefer implants to other dental treatments as the implant is fixed in place so you don’t need to worry about taking it in and out. Additionally, implants function like your own teeth allowing for easier eating and cleaning compared to other treatment options.
Dental implants do improve the quality of people’s lives who have lost their teeth. They are currently considered to be the most long-term solution to replacing teeth. However some patients may not be suitable for implants.
MM Dental Care will be providing dental implants in the near future however in the mean time we refer our patients to colleagues nearby whom we trust to oversee the care of our patients. Ask a member of our team today if a dental implant is something you are interested in.
